Pittsburgh’s ongoing physical, economic, and environmental transformation has propelled a surge in sustainable development, green innovation, and collaboration across sectors. Municipal government, private business, nonprofit organizations, and university-based initiatives work side by side to create a progressive, sustainable region. In some ways, Pittsburgh’s green story has already been written. In many other ways, we are only just beginning.
Regardless, all of these efforts must consider how they will affect the economy, built and natural environments, and social fabric of communities we live, work, learn, play, and visit. Whether sustainable infrastructure; equitable development projects; or research, technology, manufacturing, or innovation efforts, Pittsburgh Green Story attempts to capture the region’s collective efforts in sustainability and thriving communities.
Whether about people, places, products, or organizations, many of these tales have yet to be told – and some are still emerging. None is without its opportunities, achievements, and challenges.
