PITTSBURGH, PA, January 18, 2017 – The Center for Responsible Shale Development (CRSD), a collaboration of shale operators and environmental organizations defining responsible practices when shale resources are developed, announced today that Chevron Appalachian Mountain Business Unit (Chevron) has been successfully recertified to the Center’s 15 environmental Performance Standards. Initially certified in September 2014, Chevron has demonstrated ongoing conformance with the Center’s 15 Performance Standards focused on responsible stewardship of air and water resources.

“We congratulate Chevron for continuing to advance responsible operations and exemplifying a real commitment to transparency and continuous improvement,” said Susan LeGros, President and Executive Director of the Center for Responsible Shale Development. “Chevron’s recertification marks an important milestone in advancing collaborative dialogue and operating with integrity.”

The independent evaluation and verification process was conducted by a team of expert environmental management auditors contracted through Bureau Veritas, a global leader in testing, inspection and certification. The recertification process included documentation and record reviews, field and office personnel interviews, and field inspections at a cross section of the company’s operations throughout the Appalachian Basin.

CRSD’s performance standards are collaboratively developed by forward-thinking environmental organizations and shale operators.  CRSD encourages all shale operators in the Appalachian Basin to pledge their commitment to responsible development by applying for certification. All producers operating in the Appalachian region are eligible to apply.  The standards, criteria used by the auditors and audit results, are publicly available on CRSD’s website by visiting ResponsibleShaleDevelopment.org.
