Center for Sustainable Landscapes Becomes First SITE Certified Building in the World

Written by admin

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens has announced that its Center for Sustainable Landscapes (CSL) has become the first certified Sustainable SITES Initiative v2 Platinum project in the world.

Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) owns and administers SITES, the most comprehensive ratings program for designing, developing and maintaining sustainable landscapes.

The CSL opened in 2012 and was the first and only project to receive SITES 2009 Pilot Four Star certification. The new system, the SITES v2 Rating System, builds off of the 2009 pilot certification.

As one of the greenest projects in the world, the CSL meets SITES requirements based on the understanding that land is a crucial part of the built environment and by fostering its resiliency, its economic, environmental and social benefits are elevated.

SITES certified projects are also better equipped to withstand catastrophic events like floods, droughts, and wildfires. They also reduce water and energy demand, improve air quality and promote human wellbeing.
